stands for Environmental, Social & Governance, expressing the three fields that encompass various performance indices, criteria, and other standards that can then be assessed by socially conscious investors. As a result, compliance – and activities far above and beyond compliance – has a genuine far-reaching effect on a company’s financial success. Full understanding and adept navigation of these sensitive issues can be particularly complex, especially for businesses that have never previously specialized in such fields and now need to seamlessly integrate ESG with existing managerial processes. The drive for improved ESG performance may come from the company itself, from the preferences of customers, investors, and shareholders, or from defined regulatory standards.
In this course we will focus on the nexus between businesses, governments and the community. The participants will learn about ESG, CSR (corporate social responsibility), sustainable development (the SDGs) and their associated management strategies. The participants will discover how internationally accepted guidelines and policies can be customized into a profitable management system for businesses. We will learn why a growing number of businesses endorse sustainable management strategies while recognizing the need in public participation and a balance between the three components of sustainability – social, environmental and economic.
